Recipe Introduction
(Stir-Fried Cabbage)
If you didn't think cabbage could be exciting, you'll find stir-fried cabbage is fabulous. Have the exhaust fan on or a window open when you cook it - when the chili-garlic paste hits that hot oil, it may be a bit much, but the fumes are worth it.
List of Ingredients
1/4 cup chili-garlic paste (see note)
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons Splenda
2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil (see note)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons peanut oil
1 head (about 1 pound) Chinese cabbage, coarsely chopped
2 teaspoons rice vinegar (see note)Recipe
In a small dish, mix together the chili-garlic paste, salt, Splenda, toasted sesame oil and soy sauce; set by the stove.
In a wok or huge skillet over highest heat, heat the peanut oil. Add the chopped cabbage and start stir-frying. After about a minute, add the seasoning mixture; keep stir-frying until the cabbage just starts to wilt - you want it still crispy in most places.
Sprinkle in the rice vinegar, stir once more and serve.
Makes 4 servings.
Note: Look for chili-garlic paste, rice vinegar and sesame oil in your supermarket's Asian foods aisle.
