Recipe Introduction
Recipe by: Bridget Breetz of Remke Market
List of Ingredients
3-4 lbs. boneless beef brisket
1 bottle chili sauce
1 can Coke
1 packet dry onion soup mix Recipe
Preheat oven to 300°. Combine chili sauce, Coke and soup mix.
Place brisket in a foil-lined baking pan. Pour sauce mixture over brisket and cover with another sheet of foil sealing edges. Or use cooking bag.
Bake at 300°F for 3 to 3-1/2 hours until tender.
Carve cooled brisket against the grain and serve with the pan juices as a sauce.
Cooking fresh briskets seems to intimidate cooks because brisket is one of the least tender cuts of meat, and most brisket recipes call for rubs. This recipe creates a great finished product without spending a lot of time in the kitchen. By allowing enough time for cooking (2 to 3 hours), and using the proper cooking method, it can be very tender and flavorful. Brisket is usually prepared with a liquid that produces a wonderful gravy. Cook the brisket fat side up. Allow the brisket to cool before cutting; then slice across the grain into thin slices.
Follow the instructions that come with the cooking bags for coating the bag with flour and venting the bag.
This recipe works great for parties because it is easy on the cook and allows him/her to enjoy the party with the guests. I for one will be in front of the TV watching the big game and not in the kitchen.
