1 small head of cabbage, coarsely shredded
1 medium-sized can stewed whole tomatoes
2 T. caraway seeds, lightly crushed to release the flavor
1 large onion
Recipe
Cook the first three ingredients in a large saucepan until cabbage is just tender. Slice and sauté the onion. Add to cabbage mixture. Melt three tablespoons butter or oil over medium heat and add two tablespoons flour; stir and cook until it becomes a tan-colored roux, then add it to the cabbage and stir well. Add some fresh ground black pepper; heat gently for several minutes and serve as a side dish.
