    3/4 cup margarine, butter, or solid vegetable shortening, softened
    1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 large egg
    2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    3/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon salt

    Recipe



    1. In large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, beat margarine, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy, beat egg in well.

    2. In small bowl combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, at low speed, beat flour mixture gradually into margarine mixture to blend well. Refrigerate dough, wrapped in plastic wrap, at least 30 minutes.

    3. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Proceed to shape, bake, and cool cookies as in Gingerbread Cookies. Baked cookies will be light golden brown.

    4. Decorate cooled cookies as pictured, store in airtight containers.
