SUN-MAID
Recipe Introduction
Plump natural raisins are soaked in Vanilla to add a burst of flavor to one of America's favorites, the classic apple turnover. A flaky,ready-made puff pastry makes this quick and easy to prepare.
List of Ingredients
1 package (17 1/4-oz.) frozen puff pastry
1 cup SUN-MAID Raisins
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup diced, peeled apple (such as Golden Delicious, Granny Smith or Pippin)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg, lightly beaten
Recipe
Thaw puff pastry for 30 minutes or just until sheets can be unfolded.
Meanwhile, in microwave-safe bowl, combine raisins, vanilla and 2
tablespoons water; cover tightly with plastic wrap. Microwave on HIGH
for 45 seconds. Set raisins aside while pastry thaws; stir occasionally.
Cut each sheet of pastry into 4 squares. In medium bowl, combine raisins,
diced apple, brown sugar and cinnamon; stir to blend. Place about 1/4 cup
filling in center of each square, dividing evenly. Brush edges of squares
with egg and fold in half to make triangles. Pinch together with fingers
and seal with tines of fork. Brush tops with egg. With sharp knife, make
three small slits in top of each triangle for steam to escape. Place on
two greased baking sheets. Bake at 400F for 15 to 20 minutes or until browned
and puffed. Remove from sheets to wire rack to cool.
Makes 8 turnovers.
