    For the open style apple pie
    500g pack ready made shortcrust pastry
    500g Bramley apples, peeled, cored and sliced
    pinch ground cloves
    5ml spoon ground cinnamon
    pinch ground nutmeg
    50g raisins
    75g caster sugar

    For the glaze
    1 medium size egg yolk
    2 x 15ml spoons milk
    25g caster sugar

    Recipe



    Preheat the oven to 200°C, 400°F, Gas Mark 6.

    For the open style apple pie: Roll 3/4 of the pastry to line a 23cm pie dish. Roll the remaining ¼ and cut into 1cm wide strips.

    In a bowl combine together the apple, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins and caster sugar. Pile onto the base, then top with the pastry strips to form a lattice, combine the egg and milk together and use to glaze the pastry. Sprinkle with the sugar and bake for 35-40 minutes.

    Serve immediately with ice cream or cream.
