    Roasted Apple-Pear Sauce

    Adapted from a Washington Post recipe from the news wires.

    List of Ingredients




    8 McIntosh apples (about 2-1/2 lb/1-1/4 kg), peeled, cored, quartered

    4 ripe but firm bosc pears (about 1-3/4 lb/800 g), peeled, cored, quartered

    3 tbsp butter, cut in small cubes

    1/4 cup packed brown sugar

    1 tbsp finely chopped ginger

    1/8 tsp salt

    together ingredients in large roasting pan. Cover tightly with lid or foil. Roast about 30 to 40 minutes in preheated 400F oven, until pears are almost tender. Uncover and roast 10 minutes, until fruit feels tender when pierced.

    Using masher or food processor, mash mixture to desired consistency.

    Makes about 4 cups. Each 1/2 cup serving contains 180 calories, 5 grams fat, 35 grams carbohydrates
