    Christmas Brandy Tart

    List of Ingredients




    25g Butter or margarine
    1 cup castor sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 cups flour
    3 cup baking powder
    Pinch salt
    1 cup boiling water
    1 cup dates
    1 teaspoon bicarb
    1/2 cup chopped pecan or walnuts

    Recipe



    1. Pour boiling water over dates and add bicarb
    2. Cream butter and sugar and beat in the egg
    3. Sift flour, salt and baking powder and add to the creamed mixture alternately with the date mixture. Add nuts (cherries)
    4. Divide between 2 pie plates and bake in a moderate oven for approximately 1/2 hour 180 degrees Celsius (2 x 800 ML Pie Plates)

    BRANDY SAUCE
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup cold water
    1 tablespoon butter
    1 cup vanilla essence
    1/2 cup brandy

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Put the sugar and water in a pot and bring slowly to the boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Boil for 5 minutes
    2. Stir in the butter and vanilla
    3. When tarts are cooked, add brandy to sauce and spoon over the still hot tarts. Allow to cool.
    Serve with Ice Cream or Whipped Cream.
