    Women's Day Book of Baking
    In a large mixer, sprinkle and let stand a few minutes. Stir to dissolve:
    2 packages active dry yeast
    2-3/4 cups warm water (105-115°F.)

    Add and blend at low speed then beat 2 minutes at medium speed:
    3-1/4 cups flour
    3 Tbs. sugar
    3 tsp. salt
    2 Tbs. shortening softened

    Beat in by hand:
    3-1/4 cups flour

    Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes.

    Stir batter, beating hard for ½ minute.

    Spread into 2 greased loaf pans.

    Let rise until doubled, about 20 minutes.

    Bake at 375°F. for 40-50 minutes.

    Yield: 2 loaves
