Blend for 20 seconds, then beat vigorously for 1 minute:
1 cup corn meal
1 cup flour
2 Tbs. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
Pour batter into a greased 8"x8" pan.
Bake at 425°F. for 20-15 minutes or until golden brown.
For muffins:
Fill greased muffin tin 2/3 full and bake for 15 minutes.
