Traditional Sugar Cookies

Cream together:
½ cup shortening
¼ cup margarine
1 cup sugar
Blend in:
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla or ½ tsp. lemon extract
Blend in:
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Roll portions of dough between layers of plastic wrap and freeze on cookie sheet. When good and cold, work with one layer at a time. Remove plastic wrap, replace it and flip it over. Cut with floured cutter and place on ungreased sheets (parchment).
Bake at 400°F. for 608 minutes. Remove immediately.
Notes: 3/89 -- Doubled recipe made 5-1/2 dozen shamrocks. Dye dough green and sprinkle with green sugar.
