    When I was growing up I would spent a week each summer with My aunt Julia and she always made this for us.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 Tablespoons Oil or Bacon drippings
    • 2 tablespoons plain flour
    • 2 to 3 Tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 1/3 cup sugar or Splenda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 4 cups milk or 1 small can cream and enough water ot make 1 quart. (Cold)
    • Butter (optional)


    Instructions


    1. Heat bacon drippings or oil in a large frying pan. add flour and make a rue. Add salt, cocoa and sugar or Splenda. cook till flour has lost it's raw taste.
    2. Add cold milk or cream and water to cocoa flour mixture while stirring with a wisk. stir and continue to add milk or cream mixture until desired thickness.

    3. when gravy is done you can add butter to taste. Great served over biscuits.
    4. 4 to 6 servings.


    Final Comments


    I live in southwestern north carolina and the people in this area that make chocolate gravy make more like a chocolate syurp. My aunt lived in northwestern north carolina and her version is a true chocolate gravy.
