    Bakers Sweet Chocolate

    Recipe Introduction


    This is my FAVORITE cake! I make this for myself EVERY YEAR for my birthday! I double the frosting because that's my favorite part!!!

    List of Ingredients




    1 pkg. (4 0z) Bakers Germans brand, Sweet Chocolate
    1/2 C. Boiling water
    2 C. Sugar
    1 C. Butter
    4 Egg Yolks
    2 1/4 C. Flour, sifted
    1 C. Buttermilk
    4 Egg Whites, stiffly beaten
    1 t. Vanilla
    1 t. B. Soda
    1/2 t. Salt

    FROSTING;

    1 C. Evaporated milk
    1 C. Sugar
    3 Egg yolks, slightly beaten
    1/2 C. Butter
    1 t. Vanilla
    1 1/3 C. Coconut
    1 C. chopped Pecans

    Recipe



    Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool.
    Cream butter and sugar intil light and fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour w/soda & salt; add alternately w/buttermilk to the chocolate mixture, beating after each addition till smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into 3- 9" round layer pans that have been greased, floured and lined on bottoms only with wax paper (cut a round circle).
    Bake at 350' for 30-35 minutes. Cool. Frost tops only ( I frost the whole thing!)

    For Frosting;

    Combine the milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter, & vanilla. Cook and stir over med. heat until thickned, about 12 minutes.
    Add coconut and pecans. Cook till thick enough to spread, beating occas. Makes 2 1/2 Cups.
