List of Ingredients
2 packages crescent rolls (used one pkg. Pillsbury brand)
2 Granny Smith apples (1, cut in 8)
2 cups sugar (can use less)(1)
2 sticks butter (1)
1 tsp. vanilla (3/4 teas.)
1 tsp cinnamon (Saigon) (3/4 teas.)
10-oz. Mountain Dew (I still used this amount for 1/2 recipe)Recipe
Peel apples and slice into 8 sections. Separate crescent rolls and roll 1 apple slice in each. Place in a 9x13-inch baking dish. (I used 8 x 8-inch dish.)
Melt butter, add sugar, cinnamon and vanilla; stir well and pour over rolls. Finally add Mountain Dew. Bake at 350ºF for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.(I baked it for 45 minutes.)
Posted by: Linda_Chicken: This recipe is SO easy, it took 10 minutes to prepare and it's SO good -- I try and fix Mother something sweet and this will be my stand by all the time wonder from now on!! Made this while DH and son-in-law cooked the steaks, great! Serve warm with a little ice cream on top....too easy to even be called a recipe!
I've made them so many times and I think I have gotten it down to a fine art! I take the apple, pour some of the melted sugar, Saigon cinnamon, lemon and butter over the slices and place the apple on the flattened crescent roll. Wrap the roll around the apple and I cut off the extra and pinch the edges together....put them in a sprayed stone ware pan add the Mountain Dew and bake. Very good and it leaves such a nice brown cinnamon crust! (Some posters have said they just wrap the apple and some of the apple is sticking out...either way is fine!)
Another poster said: Serve warm with a little ice cream on top. If you want Cinnamon Ice Cream, slightly soften 1 pint of sugar free vanilla ice cream. Stir in 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Saigon cinnamon, depending on how strong you want the cinnamon taste. Refreeze until firm. Serve on top of the warm Apple Dessert - or ANY apple dessert.
My note: This recipe has been converted to a Diabetic recipe. See my Diabetic section...Spritely Apples.
What I did: I used 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed; 1 1/4 sticks butter, no vanilla (I forgot), 1 can (12 oz) diet Mtn Dew. I melted the butter in the microwave, stirred in the brown sugar & 2 t. cinnamon. I took an apple slice, dabbed a little of the sugar mixture & rolled up. After fixing all the creascent rolls, I put the sugar mixture in the fridge. Right before baking, I pulled out the sugar mixture and smeared it on the top of the dumpling..... Baked it 35 mins and let it sit for about 15 more mins in the oven, which I had turned off. This will be made again! Everyone loved it!!
