Stew - Gramma Katie's Easy Oven Stew

List of Ingredients
- 2 lbs. stew meat
- 1-2 tbsp. flour (leave out if making on stove)
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. paprika
- 2 tbsp. canola oil
- 1 lrg. onion, sliced
- 2 C water
- 1 C celery, sliced
- 3 lrg. potatoes, cut in chunks
- 4 carrots, sliced
- 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
- ½ -1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- salt & pepper to taste
- *Optional additions:
- - ½ C red or white wine - add ½ hr. before done.
- - fresh or canned mushrooms
- - Any other vegetable
Instructions
- Combine flour. Salt, pepper & paprika.
- Roll beef in seasoned flour.
Toss with oil in 3 qt. casserole dish.
- Bake uncovered at 400 for 30 mins.
Reduce heat to 350.
Stir once.
- Add vegetables & toss with meat.
- Add water, Italian seasoning, tomato sauce & mix well.
Taste.
- Bake covered at 350 for 1 ¾ hrs. or untiul cooked to taste.
Final Comments
Instruction for making on stove:
Use all ingredients as oven recipe, omitting flour.
Brown meat in 1 tbs. oil.
Put everything in large pot & bring to boil.
Turn down & simmer. (Let steam escape a bit)
