    Stew - Gramma Katie's Easy Oven Stew

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 lbs. stew meat
    • 1-2 tbsp. flour (leave out if making on stove)
    • 1/8 tsp. pepper
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1/8 tsp. paprika
    • 2 tbsp. canola oil
    • 1 lrg. onion, sliced
    • 2 C water
    • 1 C celery, sliced
    • 3 lrg. potatoes, cut in chunks
    • 4 carrots, sliced
    • 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
    • ½ -1 tsp. Italian seasoning
    • salt & pepper to taste
    • *Optional additions:
    • - ½ C red or white wine - add ½ hr. before done.
    • - fresh or canned mushrooms
    • - Any other vegetable


    Instructions


    1. Combine flour. Salt, pepper & paprika.

    2. Roll beef in seasoned flour.
      Toss with oil in 3 qt. casserole dish.

    3. Bake uncovered at 400 for 30 mins.
      Reduce heat to 350.
      Stir once.

    4. Add vegetables & toss with meat.

    5. Add water, Italian seasoning, tomato sauce & mix well.
      Taste.

    6. Bake covered at 350 for 1 ¾ hrs. or untiul cooked to taste.



    Final Comments


    Instruction for making on stove:

    Use all ingredients as oven recipe, omitting flour.

    Brown meat in 1 tbs. oil.
    Put everything in large pot & bring to boil.
    Turn down & simmer. (Let steam escape a bit)
