    Ho Ho Bars

    List of Ingredients




    1 box chocolate fudge or devil’s food cake mix (I use DHines Moist Deluxe Dk Choc Fudge)
    ¾ cup sugar
    1 stick margarine or butter
    2/3 cup shortening (white Crisco)
    2/3 cup evaporated milk
    1-teaspoon vanilla
    1/8-teaspoon salt
    1 can chocolate frosting (I use Dk Choc Frosting)

    Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Bake in greased and floured jellyroll pan (15 x 10 in.) (I use the foil ones-have an 8 x 8 ready too) for 18-20 minutes in 350-degree oven. Cool.

    Mix the rest of the ingredients together (except for the frosting). This will seem like a liquidy, gross mess, but keep beating it, slowly, and it will eventually look like whipped butter. A stand-up mixer works best. Beat for 15-20 minutes or until light, fluffy and the sugar has dissolved. Spread over cake layer. (I sometimes double the filling ingredients for a super thick creamy filling - double the fat, double the pleasure!)

    Place cake pans on newspaper...the next step is messy!

    Heat frosting in microwave for 1 - 1 ½ minutes. Stir to cool slightly. Drizzle over filling. It will run over the sides (fingers are great for the clean up!)

    Needs refrigeration only if room temperature is high.
