- 1 envelope active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cup flour
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix yeast and water, let stand 5 minutes.
- Heat milk in a small saucepan over low heat until just boiling; let cook slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and beat well.
- Beat in yeast mix and egg. Gradually knead remaining flour to form a soft sough.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning once. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 2 hours. Punch dough down, turn out onto a floured surface.
- Shape into 36 walnut-sized balls; place each in greased muffin cups.
- Cover and let rise for 45 minutes. Bate at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden.
