List of Ingredients
6 cups water
1/2 cup uncooked regular brown rice
1/2 cup regular pearl barley
1/3 cup wheat berries
1/3 cup rye berries
1/3 cup millet
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup orange juice or unsweetened pineapple juice
1/4 cup honey
2 cups sliced strawberries
1 medium banana, sliced
Recipe
1. In a large saucepan bring water to boiling. Stir in brown rice, barley, wheat berries, rye berries, millet, and salt. Return to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 45 to 60 minutes or until grains are tender, stirring occasionally. (If mixture becomes too dry during cooking, stir in a small amount of additional water.)
2. To serve, stir together the orange juice and honey. Spoon hot cereal into serving bowls. Drizzle with the juice mixture. Top with strawberries and banana. Makes 8 servings.
Make-Ahead Tip: Cover and chill cooked cereal for up to 3 days. To reheat 1 serving, measure 3/4 to 1 cup cereal into a microwave-safe bowl. Cover with waxed paper. Microwave on 100-percent power (high) for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes or until heated through. To serve, stir together 1 tablespoon of the orange juice and 1 teaspoon of the honey; drizzle over hot cereal. Top with 1/4 cup of the strawberries and a few slices of banana.
