    Irish Brown Bread

    List of Ingredients

    7 cups whole wheat flour
    1 cup bran
    1 cup wheat germ
    6 tablespoons margarine
    3 teaspoons baking soda
    1 liter of buttermilk
    1/2 cup water

    Recipe

Combine flour, bran, wheat germ, baking soda .
Cut in margarine until in very small particles.
Make a well in the center; add the buttermilk and water.
Stir lightly but thoroughly until all flour is moistened.
Turn out onto lightly floured board; knead 5 times.
Form into 3 balls; place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Pat to 7-inch circle about 1 1/2 inches thick.
With floured knife make large cross on top of loaf to keep it from cracking during baking.
Bake in preheated oven at 400 degrees F. for 40 minutes or
until loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Serve bread hot, with plenty of butter.

Bread not used right away should be wrapped tightly and also can be frozen for future use.
This bread is also excellent toasted.
