Fruit Cake

List of Ingredients
- 4 c. applesauce
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. shortening
- 4 c. flour
- 4 tsp. salt
- 1-2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1-2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 lb. (2 c.) raisins
- 1 lb. (2 c.) chopped dates
- 1 lb. mixed candied fruit
- 2 c. chopped nuts
Instructions
- Heat applesauce. Add sugar and shortening while cooking; cool until just warm.
- Add all other ingredients; pour into greasted and floured loaf pans. Bake at 300 degrees for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until it tests done with a toothpick. Do not overcook.
- If desired, brush top with melted butter while still warm.
