Applesauce Spice Cookies




List of Ingredients



• 1/2 c. shortening
  
• 1 c. sugar
  
• 1 egg, beaten
  
• 2 c. flour
  
• 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  
• 1/4 tsp. cloves
  
• 1/2 tsp. salt
  
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  
• 1 tsp. baking powder
  
• 1 c. thick, unsweetened applesauce
  






Instructions



1. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with applesauce, making sure you add flour first and last.
   
2. Drop by tablespoonsfuls onto well-greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375^.
   
3. Makes 2 1/2 dozen. large cookies.
   
4. VARIATIONS: Add 1 c. chopped nuts, dates or raisins to batter.
