Melt-In-Your-Mouth Sugar Cookies

1 c butter or margarine, softened
1 c vegetable oil
1 c sugar
1 c confectioners' sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
4½ c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cream of tartarRecipe
Heat oven to 350°
Combine butter, oil and sugars in a large mixing bowl; beat well at medium speed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition; stir in vanilla.
Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar in a medium bowl; add to creamed mixture, beating well.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool on waxed paper or wire racks.
Yield: 8 dozen
