    Source of Recipe

    old time recipe
    1½ c. flour
    ½ c. sugar
    1 t. baking powder
    ½ t. salt
    2 eggs
    ¼ c. butter
1 envelope (1 oz.) premelted unsweetened chocolate
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 t. vanilla
1 envelope (1 oz.) premelted unsweetened chocolate

Grease and 8 or 9 inch square pan. In a medium bowl combine flour with the ½ cup of sugar, baking powder and salt. Separate eggs, placing whites in a small bowl and yolks in the flour mixture, mix flour mixture well. Cut in butter and 1 envelope premelted chocolate till crumbly. (Mixture will be flecked). Firmly press into prepared pan. Bake at 350º for 5 to 7 minutes, until light golden brown. Meanwhile beat egg whites til foamy. Gradually add 1 cup of sugar till stiff peaks form about 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients blending at low speed until thoroughly combined. Spread on partially baked crust to cover. Return to oven and continue baking for 20 to 25 minutes until puffy and firm to touch. Cool completely. Gently press crusty top into base so that top is somewhat cracked. Cut into bars. Store tightly covered.
