2 Tablespoons butter
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 cup maple syrup
½ cup water
¾ cup walnut halves or pieces
An 8- or 9-inch pastry pie crust
Sweetened whipped cream for garnish (optional)
Recipe
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over moderate heat and stir in the flour. Cook, stirring constantly, until the flour is light golden brown. Add the maple syrup and water and cook, stirring constantly,until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow to cool for 10 minutes and stir in the walnuts. Pour into the pie shell and bake in a preheated 350° F oven until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown, 35 to 40.
