    My family has always used this cake as our "official" Gingerbread recipe. It's wonderful served with whipped cream...and makes a BIG batch, as it's baked in a 9x13 pan.

    List of Ingredients




    1 cup molasses
    ½ cup sugar
    ½ cup shortening
    1 egg
    2 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    ½ teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ginger
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 cup boiling water

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour a 9x13 baking pan.

    Cream together the sugar and shortening, blend in the molasses and the egg.

    Combine the dry ingredients (flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger & nutmeg). Add to the molasses mixture. Blend well. Quickly stir in the boiling water, and pour into the prepared pan.

    Bake at 350° for 35 minutes, or until cake tests done. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream.
