    3 cups flour
    ¼ teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon allspice
    ½ teaspoon nutmeg
    ½ teaspoon cloves
    2 eggs
    1 cup sugar
    ½ cup honey
    ¾ Cup (about 4 ounces) unblanched almonds, finely chopped
    2 Ounces candied orange peel (about 1/3 cup, chopped)
    2 Ounces candied lemon peel (about 1/3 cup, chopped)


    1/3 cup sifted powdered sugar
    1 Tablespoon water
    1 teaspoon lemon juice


    Recipe



    Grease a 15½-inch x10½-inch x 1-inch pan.

    Stir together and set aside: 3 cups flour ¼ teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon allspice ½ teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon cloves. Beat until thick and piled softly: 2 eggs 1 cup sugar Beat in: ½ cup honey

    Gently fold in the dry ingredients in fourths. Mix in the almonds and candied peel. Turn batter into pan, spreading to corner.

    Bake at 350° 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick or cake tester comes out clean when inserted in center. Set pan on cooling rack.

    Meanwhile, blend together: 1/3 cup sifted powdered sugar 1 tablespoon water 1 teaspoon lemon juice

    When Lebkuchen is slightly cooled, cut edges into 8-x8-inch bars. Spread mixture evenly over top of hot Lebkuchen and cut into 1½-inch by 1½-inch bars. Remove to cooling rack. When cooled cut from cut edge to cut edge.

    Makes 5 dozen
