BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES

4 Quarts of cucumbers, sliced thin
8 onions, sliced thin
1 clove garlic, shredded
½ cup salt
5 cups sugar
3 cups vinegar
1½ teaspoons turmeric
2 Tablespoons mustard seed
2 teaspoons celery seedRecipe
Mix together the cucumbers, onions and garlic, in a large pot. Mix with salt, and cover with lots of ice. Let stand for 3 hours. Drain well, to get all the water off.
Boil the sugar, vinegar, turmeric, mustard seed and celery seed. Let it boil for 2 minutes. Add the cucumber mixture, and bring it back to a boil. Once it starts to boil, turn it off, and ladle pickles into hot sterilized jars, and seal. (No need for additional processing!)
