    Creme Brulee French Toast

    Recipe Introduction

Use bread sliced from a round loaf of bread and remove the crust or use french baguettes, leaving crust on. Also good with Challah bread. Good served with crisp bacon or Canadian bacon slices.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 stick unsalted butter
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2 T. corn syrup
    • 8 or 9-inch round loaf country style bread
    • 5 large eggs
    • 1-1/2 cups half-and-half
    • 1 t. vanilla
    • 1 t. Grand Marnier
    • 1/4 t. salt

    Instructions

    1. In a small heavy saucepan melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat, stirring, until smooth and pour into a 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Cut six 1-inch thick slices from center portion of bread, reserving ends for another use, and trim crusts. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit.

    2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, Grand Marnier, and salt, until well combined and pour evenly over bread. Chill bread mixture, covered at least 8 hours and up to one day.

    3. Preheat oven to 350 degreees and bring bread mixture to room temperature.

    4. Bake bread mixture, uncovered in middle of oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, about 35 - 40 minutes.

    5. Cut into squares and turn bottom side up so caramel coating is on top.

    6. Serves 6 - 8

A great brunch dish. Also good re-warmed in microwave next day IF there is any left.
