Grape vine leaves, rinsed thoroughly (in store, look near pickles/olives)
¾ lb extra lean ground beef
½ cup pearl barley or brown rice
1 medium onion, chopped
Heavy dash Onion powder
Heavy dash Garlic powder
1/8 t. thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
½ water
1 can FF chicken stockRecipe
Mix all of the above (except leaves and chicken broth), roll up about 1 heaping tablespoon of mix in each leaf. Line heavy bottomed saucepan with wrapped dolmades.
Add chicken stock and enough water to just cover the dolmades. Bring to a boil, and then lower to medium for about 45 minutes, until barley is done.
The traditional egg-lemon sauce (made with whole eggs, fresh lemon juice and the liquid after the dolmades have been cooked) is also probably core (need to find recipe)
