Pecan Paulines

List of Ingredients
1-2/3 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg, unbeaten
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp maple flavoring
3/4 cup pecan halves--each half broken into 2-4 pieces

Sift together flour, salt and baking soda.
Cream butter or margarine. Gradually add brown sugar, beating well. Blend in unbeaten egg, vanilla and maple flavoring.
Gradually add dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition.
Shape into log. Wrap in wax paper. Chill in refrigerator four hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease baking sheets. Slice cookies into 1/8 inch thickness. Place 4-5 pecan pieces on each cookie and press gently into cookie. Bake for 8-10 mins.
When cookies have cooled, drizzle each cookie with a scant tsp of Pauline Frosting. Makes 3 doz.
Pauline Frosting
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 TBS white corn syrup
water
1 cup powdered sugar
In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup and 1 tsp water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
Blend in powdered sugar and 1 TBS water. Beat until smooth (with electric mixer). Add a few drops of water at a time until the frosting reaches glaze consistancy.
