    I can remember mom fixing this for us kids growing up. Mom would also make her "Homemade syrup" too.

    List of Ingredients




    1c. corn meal
    1t. salt
    1c. cold water
    3c. boiling water

    Syrup
    Vanilla to taste
    pat of butter
    2c. brown sugar
    3/4c. water

    Recipe



    Combine corn meal, salt, & cold water. Mix well. Gradually pour into boiling water stirring constantly. Reduce heat, cover and cook on low heat for 5 minutes stirring frequently. When done pour into lightly greased bread loaf pan and chill over night in refrigerator. Slice into desired thickness dust with flour, so it won't splatter. Heat cooking oil or lard in a cast iron skillet & deep fry til done.


    Syrup directions:

    Place brown sugar & water into sauce pan. Bring to boil and disolve sugar. Simmer 4-5 minutes and remove from heat. Add vanilla & butter. Stir well.

    NOTE: for thinner or thicker syrup increase or decrease water to your liking.
