Recipe Introduction
This is a recipe for traditional glazed nuts that eliminates the use of egg whites, and cuts down on mess by using the Crock instead of a baking sheet in the oven.
List of Ingredients
- 1 Lb. Walnuts or Pecans
- 1 Stick (1/2 cup) Unsalted Butter
- 1/4 Cup Good Quality Maple Syrup
- 1/4 Cup Confectioner's Sugar
- 1/2 tsp. ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/8 tsp. ground clove
Instructions
- Combine Butter and Maple Syrup in your crockpot set on low.
- Stir until butter is melted.
- Add nuts to butter/maple mixture and stir to coat well.
- Continue stirring while you add the confectioner's sugar in a steady stream.
- Cover the crock, increase the heat to High, and cook covered for 15 minutes.
- Uncover crock, stir nuts, and reduce heat to Low.
- Cook, uncovered, at Low heat, stirring frequently, for 2 hours.
- Nuts should have a nice, hard, shiny glaze on them at this point.
- Add mixed spices to nuts and stir well to coat evenly.
- Transfer coated nuts to a baking sheet, spread into an even layer, to cool.
- Munch, Munch, Munch!
Final Comments
These are so easy and very pleasing to look at, smell, and eat! I usually put them into a wide-mouthed pint jar with a piece of fabric cut to fit inside the band. What a pretty presentation it makes for gifting, or to have in Pantry for when unexpected guests arrive and you need a quick snack to go with coffe.
