    Homemade Biscuits, Gravy popular combo

    The Amish Cook

    Recipe Introduction

On weekends or holidays, the pace is slower. Once a year, for our Christmas gathering, we have the whole family over for a big breakfast and a whole-day get-together. So good to have the family together. At such a time, the kitchen is filled with the aroma of homemade cinnamon rolls lifting from the oven or of cooked apples on the range. Homemade biscuits are another favorite around here.

For the homemade biscuits, some make the sausage gravy to top the hot biscuits, but I usually make the gravy with milk, adding a milk thickening with flour to it. When cooked, I season it with salt and pepper to taste, also add a small amount of butter or margarine to it. The breakfast biscuits are easy to mix and bake.

We usually do the milk gravy and biscuits when the adult children come home for a morning meal. I am not too fond of biscuits and gravy, but my children enjoy it. I usually prepare fried eggs and potatoes with it for the family members who enjoy something else to eat with their biscuits.

    List of Ingredients

    Homemade Biscuits

    2 cups sifted flour
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/4 cup mayonnaise
    1 cup milk
    1 teaspoon sugar

In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add remaining ingredients and mix till smooth.

Drop by tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet or fill 12 muffin tins two-thirds full. Bake 18-20 minutes at 375 degrees.

When the biscuits are done, they will be a light, golden brown.

    Yield: 12 3-inch biscuits.
