    1 cup buttermilk
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    2 tablespoons light corn syrup
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    2 cups sugar
    1 cup chopped nuts
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Recipe



    Combine buttermilk, butter, corn syrup, baking soda and sugar in 5
    1/2 quart or larger saucepan. Stir over low heat until butter is
    melted and sugar dissolved. Then cook very slowly, without stirring,
    until mixture forms a hard ball when a dollop of it is dropped into
    a glass of cold water, about 45 to 55 minutes. Remove from heat and
    cool 10 to 15 minutes. Beat until mixture loses its gloss. Stir in
    nuts and vanilla. Pour into greased 9-inch-square pan. cut while
    warm.

    Makes about 3 dozen 1 1/2-inch squares.
