    This recipe appears in several church and other auxiliary cookbooks, so it is no secret. This version comes from A Taste of McMaster by the McMaster University United Way Cook Book Committee.

    Saltine Toffee Cookie
    Makes one cookie sheet full

    1 sleeve of 1 pound box saltine crackers
    1 cup butter
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1 (12-oz) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
    1 cup chopped toasted walnuts

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 400F. Line cookie sheet with saltine crackers in a single layer. In a saucepan, combine sugar and butter. Bring to a boil and boil for three minutes. Immediately pour over saltines and spread to cover crackers
    completely.

    Bake in 400F oven for 5 to 6 minutes. remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top. Let sit for five minutes, then spread melted chocolate and top with chopped nuts.

    Cool completely and break into pieces.
