List of Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup milk, or water
2 cups oil, for frying
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Recipe
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the beaten eggs,butter, milk, and as much of the flour mixture as will be absorbed. Knead the dough. Divide it into 24 balls the size of limes.
Press and roll the dough with a rolling pin to 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Heat the oil on high and fry each bunuelo on both sides until a delicate brown. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, which have
been mixed together.
Or serve with syrup made by combining 2 cups of water with 2 cones piloncillo (Mexican sugar), crushed (or 4 cups dark brown sugar) and 1 stick cinnamon. Boil until thickened. Pour over the hot bunuelos.
Makes 24 bunuelos.
