    Recipe Introduction


    These are the old fashioned "Bread and Butter" type pickles. I keep a supply of these all the time. They are my favorite.


    List of Ingredients


    • 4 quarts cucumber slices
    • 6 medium white only slices
    • 2 small green peppers, chopped
    • 3 cloves garlic
    • 1/3 cup salt, coarsely ground
    • 3 cups cider vinegar
    • 1-1/2 teaspoons turmeric
    • 1-1/2 teaspoons celery seed
    • 2 tablespoons mustard seed


    Instructions


    1. Place sliced cucumbers in a large glass bowl, add sliced onions, peppers, whole garlic and salt.
    2. Cover with cracked ice.
    3. Mix thoroughly.
    4. Let stand for 3 hours.
    5. Drain well.
    6. Combine remaining ingredients, pour over cucumbers.
    7. Heat just to a boil.
    8. Seal in hot sterilized jars.
    9. Process in hot water bath for 5 minutes.
    10. Yield: 8 pints


    Final Comments


    Note:
    DO NOT PARE CUCUMBERS - SLICE THIN
    When processing start timing when water returns to boiling. Always use clean hot, sterilized jars and lids.
