List of Ingredients
- 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups quick cooking or old fashioned oats
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Filling:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 packages dates, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare date filling; cool. Heat oven to 400.
- Mix margarine and brown sugar in large bowl until well blended.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Press half of the mixture in ungreased recangular pan, 13x 9x2 inches.
- Spread with filling or 1 cup of jam. Top with remaining crumbly mixture. Press lightly.
- Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown. Cool 30 minutes.
- Cut into bars while warm. Makes about 32 bars.
- For Filling:
- Cook all ingredients over low heat, stirring until thickened.
