    List of Ingredients


    • 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 cups quick cooking or old fashioned oats
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • Filling:
    • 1 1/2 cups water
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 2 packages dates, chopped


    Instructions


    1. Prepare date filling; cool. Heat oven to 400.

    2. Mix margarine and brown sugar in large bowl until well blended.

    3. Stir in remaining ingredients.

    4. Press half of the mixture in ungreased recangular pan, 13x 9x2 inches.

    5. Spread with filling or 1 cup of jam. Top with remaining crumbly mixture. Press lightly.

    6. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown. Cool 30 minutes.

    7. Cut into bars while warm. Makes about 32 bars.
