- 1 to 1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
- 1/4 cup margarine or butter
- 1 small onion,finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 8 ounces process sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook macaroni as directed.
- Cook and stir margarine,onion,salt and pepper over medium heat until onion is slightly tender.
- Blend in flour.
- Cook over low heat,stirring constantly,until mixture is smooth and bubbly;remove from heat.
- Stir in milk.
- Heat to boiling,stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 min,remove from heat.
- Stir in cheese until melted.
- PLace macaroni in ungreased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Stir cheese sauce into macaroni. Cook uncovered in 375 oven for 30 min.
- For ham and macaroni and cheese, stir 1 cup cut up fully cooked ham into the cheese sauce.
- For tuna and macaroni and cheese; stir in 1 can tuna drained,into the cheese sauce.
