Rhubarb Coffee Cake

Combine the following in a sauce pan.
Cook over low heat stirring until thickened:
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 cup flour
2 cup finely chopped rhubarb
topping:
1 Tbs butter
1 Tbs cinnamon
1/2 c sugar
Mix everything except the rhubarb together in a large bowl. Stir in rhubarb. Pour into 9 x 13 pan. Combine topping and sprinkle over batter. Bake in preheated oven at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.
