Irish Oatmeal Cake

CAKE:
1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 stick butter
1 cup oatmeal (regular or quick cook.. it doesn't matter)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla
TOPPING:
Mix together:
1 cup coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup milk
2 TB. butter
1/3 cup white sugar
Recipe
Pour 1-1/4 cups boiling water over 1 stick of butter and 1 cup of oatmeal. Soak in one-quart container for 20 minutes.
Mix one cup of brown sugar and one cup of white sugar with two beaten eggs. Add this mixture to the oatmeal.
Add one teaspoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of baking powder to 1-1/4 cups of flour, then add this flour mixture to the oatmeal.
Add one teaspoon of vanilla and mix well.
Grease and flour a 13x9 baking pan. Pour in batter and bake at 350F for 35 minutes.
Immediately top hot cake with topping mixture and place under broiler to brown.
WATCH CLOSELY!!!!!!! This topping takes only seconds to brown. Be careful not to let it burn.
Let cake cool completely before slicing.
