    Lemon Sourdough Bread

    1 stick of butter at room temperature
    1 cup sugar
    Grated rind of 1 lemon
    2 eggs
    2 1/2 cups flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    3/4 tsp baking soda
    1/3 cup lemon juice
    1/3 cup water
    1 cup sourdough starter made with white flour
    Confectioner's Icing made with lemon juice

    Confectioner's Icing: Combine 1 cup confectioner's sugar with 2 tsp lemon juice and enough water to make a creamy frosting.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-inch loaf pan. Cream the
    butter with the sugar and grated rind until light and fluffy. Add the
    eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the
    flour, salt and baking soda. In a small bowl combine the lemon juice
    and water. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately
    with the lemon mixture, beating until fluffy. Fold in the sourdough
    starter until batter is smooth. Pour into the loaf pan and bake 1
    hour, or until bread tests done. Leave the bread in the pan and place
    on wire rack 10 minutes. Cool thoroughly. Brush with the
    Confectioner's Icing.
