Recipe Introduction
Pastrami is the classic deli meat that begs the question, "Who needs refrigerators?" Created as a way to preserve meat before modern refrigeration, pastrami is beef that's brined, dried, seasoned, smoked and then steamed. That's a whole lotta processing and the result is a whole lotta flavor. Pastrami has been an American favorite since it was first served in New York delis in 1887.

HOME COOKIN’ 01/14/2012 National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day Hot Pastrami Swiss Cheese Panini on Rye
Hot Pastrami Swiss Cheese Panini on Rye from Ratty Gourmet
Delicately crispy, with nutty rye, savory pastrami, and melty Swiss cheese in every bite. I thought having veggies in the sandwich would compromise the Panini’s texture, but you can definitely enjoy them on the side.
2 slices light rye bread
3-4 slices pastrami
2 slices Swiss cheese
1/2 cup green beans (on the side)
Recipe
1. Layer one slice of Swiss cheese, pastrami, and the other slice of Swiss cheese on a slice of rye.
2. Place the other slice of rye on top and press in the panini press for 5-7 minutes or until nice brown char marks appear.
3. Enjoy with steamed green beans (the Ratty calls them "French beans" I think) on the side.
