Recipe Introduction
Irish coffee is a delicious cocktail to enjoy any time of the year. It was first created in 1942 by Joe Sheridan, a bartender at the Shannon Airport in Ireland. One cold winter night, Sheridan was serving a group of traveling Americans. He decided to add whiskey to his customers' warm coffee in order to show them true Irish hospitality. When the passengers asked if they were being served Brazilian coffee, he told them that it was Irish coffee.
It was Stanton Delaplane, a travel writer from San Francisco, who brought Irish coffee to the United States. After sampling it at the Shannon Airport, he wrote about the drink's delicious taste in his magazine. He was also able to convince the bartenders at the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco to start serving it on their menu. Irish coffee's popularity soon spread nationwide.
Irish coffee is made from black coffee, sugar, Irish whiskey, and it is usually topped off with whip cream. Celebrate National Irish Coffee Day with a heavenly mug to keep you warm!
