Corn Sorullos from Hel
1½ Cups MASECA® corn flour
1¼ Tsps Salt
¼ Tsp Pepper
¼ Cup Sugar
2 Cups Water
6 Yellow cheese slices (diced)
2 Cups Oil for frying
Recipe
Put the water, the salt, the pepper, and the sugar in a pot to boil. Once the mix is boiling, turn the heat off, add the MASECA®, and stir until the mix becomes dough. Take it out of the pot and put it in a bowl to let it cool a little.
To form the sorullos, grab a small ball of dough and flatten it to form a rectangle. Put some cheese on the dough and wrap it with the dough to form “finger – like” shapes. Repeat the process with the rest of the dough.
In a pan with hot oil, fry the sorullos until they are golden brown. Serve them warm.
PORTIONS: 15 to 20 sorullos.
TIP: You can stuff them with ground beef or the cheese of your preference.
COOKING TIME: 35 minutes.
