    Baked Pears with Rum Custard


    3 pears, halved and cored
    1/2 cup chopped dates
    1/4 cup chopped walnuts
    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup honey
    1/2 cup orange juice or sauterne wine
    pinches of nutmeg

    Recipe





    Combine the dates and walnuts and spoon into pear centers. Dot with butter, drizzle with honey, and place in a baking dish. Pour orange juice or wine into the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve with Rum Custard Sauce.

    Rum Custard Sauce: Combine 1 cup milk, 2 slightly beaten egg yolks, 2 tablespoons sugar, a dash of salt and 1 teaspoon rum extract. Cook over low heat until thick. Serve warm
