Caliente Ketchup
1 - 14 oz can plum tomatoes with juice, coarsely chopped
1 tbsp chili powder
1 - 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
1/4 tsp ginger
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp saltRecipe
Combine all ingredients in a nonreactive medium saucepan. Bring to a boil,
reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until thickened, about 25 to 30 minutes.
Transfer mixture to a blender and puree until almost smooth; cool.
Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Makes 2 1/2 cups
Hot Pepper Caution: Hot peppers cause severe skin and eye irritation. Wear
rubber gloves when handling hot peppers and avoid touching any exposed skin.
