HOW TO TOAST NUTS
Recipe
Toasting brings out the best in nuts, giving them a crisper texture and
increasing their flavor tenfold. Best of all, it's easy to do.
Toasted nuts add wonderful flavor and texture to candies, cookies, main
dishes, salads and more. But, don't stop with just nuts, try it with whole
grains such as oats and seeds, too!
Oven Method:
Preheat oven to 350*F (180* C).
Place shelled, whole nuts, in a single layer, on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 7 to 8 minutes, stirring halfway through baking time, or until
nuts become fragrant and are lightly browned.
Watch nuts closely to prevent burning.
Cool nuts completely before using.
Skillet Method:
Place shelled, whole nuts a heavy skillet or frying pan and toast over
moderate heat, stirring constantly, about 5 minutes or until fragrant and
lightly browned. No oil is needed as the nuts release their own natural
oils as they are heated.
Cool nuts completely before using.
To Toast Oats:
Lower oven temperature to 325*F (160*) and stir 2 or 3 times during baking,
watching closely, as the oats will toast faster than nuts.
