Cherry Pecan Bread

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
2 eggs, at room temperature
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
1 cup chopped pecans
10 ounces maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla
Recipe
Preheat the oven to 350-degrees. Grease an 8 or 9-inch loaf pan. In a large
bowl cream the sugar and butter until fluffy; beat in the eggs. In a small
bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture,
alternating with buttermilk. Beat until well blended. Stir in the nuts,
cherries, and vanilla. Pour the batter into prepared pan. Bake for 55 to 60
minutes. Drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and milk, if desired.
