    4 thick wooden sticks

    1 cup light brown sugar

    1/2 cup light corn syrup

    1/2 cup salted butter, 1 stick

    1/2 can evaporated milk (1/2 of a 14 oz. can)

    1 Tbsp. vanilla extract

    4 Granny Smith apples

    2 cups dry roasted peanuts, optional, chopped



    Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Mix brown sugar and corn syrup in medium
    pot over medium heat. Cook until mixture reaches 245. Stir in butter, condensed
    milk and vanilla and whisk until smooth, 3 to 4 minutes. Pierce each apple with
    a wooden stick and gently dip and roll in caramel sauce until evenly coated.
    Roll each apple in chopped nuts, if using to coat. Place, stick side up, on
    prepared baking sheet until caramel coating hardens slightly. Makes 4

    Tip: To make Caramel Pears, replace apples with pears and chopped peanuts with
    chopped hazelnuts.
